Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, also known as ADHD, is a neurological disorder consisting of persistent inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that affects the brain’s regulatory functions.
The complexity and possible variations of ADHD signs make it even more paramount to obtain a precise diagnosis. If you or your child are undergoing ADHD symptoms, we can help you find answers.
These symptoms can appear as early as age 3, but they typically show up before age 12. They can also go on through teenage years and adulthood, changing significantly over time. For example, young kids with ADHD tend to show prominent hyperactivity and impulsivity. As they grow up, lack of attention may come into play, with restlessness and fidgeting as common signs in adolescence. In some cases, ADHD symptoms may be a result of other medical conditions. And in many others, they fly entirely under the radar or are mistaken for other mental health issues such as anxiety or depression.
Assessments can put into words what you or your child are experiencing. Timely ADHD detection can not only dictate treatment but open up a whole new path for you and your family.
During our assessments, we use gold-standard tools and measures to shine a light on your mental health and plan the following steps on your wellness journey.
Psychological testing lets us analyze your emotional, cognitive, and executive functioning, as well as other traits, through a series of questions, tasks, and tests. After the assessment is complete, a psychologist will provide you with a report detailing findings and treatment recommendations.
ADHD Psychological testing starts with an initial consultation. Our assessment psychologist meets with you (and your child, if that’s the case) to talk about your concerns, goals and determine if a full assessment is necessary. If so, we will schedule a diagnostic interview and one-on-one testing sessions depending upon your availability and the required testing. Testing sessions include having you (or your child) complete a series of tasks and assessment measures. We utilize the gold-standard tools for identifying intellectual strengths/weaknesses, emotional difficulties, and functional abilities.
Once we gather all findings, we will meet with you to walk you through the results and recommend the next steps for treatment. The entire assessment process can take a few weeks as we strive to make a thorough and detailed evaluation.
