SOCIAL SKILLS
Humans are hardwired for connection – but learning to connect can sometimes be tricky!
That’s why Heredia Therapy Group offers specialized social skills groups for youth and young adults from all over the City of Industry and Downey area.
We believe that everyone deserves a chance to learn social and relational skills, and we want to help make that happen. Our therapists and assistants provide a safe, judgment-free space for children and young adults to learn, interact, and grow together.

DOES MY CHILD NEED HELP WITH SOCIAL SKILLS?
Is your child or young adult struggling with making or keeping friends? Do they have difficulty with conversation, expressing their needs, or cooperating with others? Have you noticed any signs of bullying or peer rejection? Are you feeling lost, overwhelmed, or unsure how to help?
If so, we are here for you!
Social skills groups are all about helping kids and young adults learn essential relational skills, such as conversation and reading body language. Participants meet together as a group with a team of therapists and assistants who provide education, facilitate activities, and attend to participant needs. Each group meets on a weekly basis for one 90 minutes session, which we have found provides an optimal challenge and opportunity for learning without placing too much demand on participant attention.
“This program opened my child’s eyes to the opportunities that were right in front of them”. -Parent
“I have made friends in this group”. -C.M., age 8.
We take pride in hosting social skills groups that feel safe, judgment-free, and fun. Our team here at Heredia Therapy Group continually feels inspired by the success stories of kids and young adults who learn to overcome social difficulty and reach their true potential. No matter how difficult things might seem, we can help.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
We want to make space for everyone to learn social skills, but our groups are currently open for children (ages 4 and up) and young adults (up to 22 years old).
Each participant is grouped based on age, language and developmental needs, and social goals. Many of our participants are autistic or have a previous diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, which features developmental differences and difficulty learning social skills. However, we also work with participants who might struggle with social anxiety, bullying, friendlessness, disobedience, emotional outbursts, and more.

HOW CAN SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS HELP?
Social skills groups are focused, evidence-based, and fun!
Our groups are tailored to help boost socioemotional growth, which we do by integrating skill discovery with practical peer interaction, games and role play. As your child or young adult attends our social skills groups, they can learn essential skills such as:
· Conversation (with peers and adults)
· Making new friends
· Body language
· Recognizing social cues
· Confidence
· Handling conflict
· Coping with difficult emotions
· Eye contact
· Dating etiquette (teens and up)
We also recommend that participants sign up for individual therapy in addition to attending social skills groups, particularly those who might be dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, or difficulty managing outbursts.
